You need a new USB camera to replace a defective U-Eye USB 2.0 camera and wonder if you then also need a new Metric license? It depends on the serial number: If your Metric is a 9.1 or higher you can download a complete installation using the old serial number. For this reason you should keep the old CD's in any case well, because on this the serial number of your license is noted and thus you have access to an update at any time. From 2022 on the Metric software will be delivered on a special USB stick.

Please note that from May 2023 we will only deliver the USB cameras of the company IDS, which have been used since 2007, in very special cases due to constant quality problems.

As standard camera we use a new 5 megapixel USB 3.0 camera with a ½" color chip (model name 5M-C). A different USB driver is required for this camera (HIK USB 3.0 Camera 5M-C). In addition, Metric 10.0 must be installed for the new USB 3.0 camera. This will be available for download from 15.05.2023. All older camera models can still be used with Metric 10.0. Just make sure that the IDS camera driver U-Eye USB Camera 64-Bit v4.9 driver is installed for new installations.

If you want to avoid a time-consuming uninstall, installation, creation of lenses and calibration, we can update the Metric software with a special program in about 5 minutes. During this installation the necessary ocx and dll files as well as the Metric.exe are updated. For this we need access to your computer via TeamViewer and you must have administrator rights.

Please always make sure that read and write rights for the Metric measurement software are set up during a new installation. Please deactivate the energy saving measures in the "Device Manager" → "USB Controller". If you set up more than one user, you must make sure that the Metric.opt, which is located in the Virtual Store (Admin), is copied to the user in the Virtual Store, otherwise the calibrations and settings are not identical for all users (see Windows (C) → User → AppData → Local → VirtualStore → Program Files (x86) → Metric).

Note: Before migrating a currently calibrated system with the Metric measurement software to a new PC, first back up the "Metric.opt" and, if used, the "Metric2.opt". You can tell if the Metric.opt is the correct one by the file size under C/Programs (x86)/Metric. If the Metric.opt is only 40 KB, the correct Metric.opt is in the Virtual Store. As soon as you have installed the Metric and the drivers on the new PC and the system starts correctly, load the Metric.opt under "Load settings" (e.g. from the USB stick) and save it under C/Programs (x86)/Metric.

Attention: When ordering a replacement camera, please note that the defective camera must be sent in, as we have to delete the license (activation) for the Metric measurement software. The new USB 3.0 camera will again be delivered with an activation code for the Metric measurement software. Thus, no additional dongle is necessary for activation.
