Optical tool measuring systems for precise tool measurement and quality control of drills, end mills, and cutting tools

The CT Series comprises high-precision tool measuring instruments and optical tool measuring machines designed for fast, non-contact tool measurement of drills, end mills, threading tools, and cutting tools. The systems were specifically developed for industrial tool measurement technology, CNC tool measurement, and digital quality control in tool manufacturing and machining.

Non-contact tool inspection enables high-precision measurement of cutting edge geometries, tool contours, and complex tool features with maximum repeatability. This makes the CT Series ideal for tool manufacturers, grinding shops, CNC machining facilities, quality assurance departments, and the incoming inspection of high-precision cutting tools.

By utilizing a high-performance 5.6-megapixel color camera in combination with high-resolution zoom optics, the optical measurement system achieves the highest image quality for precise cutting edge measurement and tool inspection. With optional attachment optics, screen magnifications of up to 1,000x are possible, allowing for detailed analysis of even the smallest tool geometries, cutting edges, and microstructures.

The high-precision measuring systems with a resolution of 1 µm, combined with ball screws and backlash-free precision guides, guarantee maximum measurement accuracy, process reliability, and reproducible measurement results. The CT Series thus meets the highest demands of modern precision measurement and industrial quality processes.

The powerful Metric measurement software enables the measurement of all tool-specific features through manual measurements or via functions with image processing and automatic edge detection. These include, among others:

  • Radius measurement
  • Angle measurement
  • Cutting edge measurement
  • Chamfer width measurement
  • Cross-cutting edge measurement
  • Clearance angle measurement
  • Tool length measurement
  • Measurement of cooling channels
  • Analysis of thread geometries

Tool measurement using the CT Series significantly reduces measurement times while simultaneously increasing efficiency and reliability in quality control and tool inspection. For comprehensive digital quality documentation, measurement results can be quickly and easily exported to Microsoft Excel. Additionally, interfaces to QM systems such as Q-Stat are available, enabling seamless integration into modern Industry 4.0 and quality management processes.
